Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a central university in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established in 1875 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College (MAO). In 1920, it became Aligarh Muslim University after the Aligarh Muslim University Act was passed. Features of AMU: Open to all AMU is open to all people, regardless of caste, creed, religion, or gender. Residential university AMU is a residential university with a General Education center that organizes extra-curricular activities. Courses AMU offers more than 300 courses in traditional and modern branches of education.
